Vladimir Lenin had accomplished at least one good deed over the period of his bloody rule - in October 1920 he had signed an edict founding the Ural State University and that was the first and the most important step for the birth and development of science in the Ural Region, which since then has permanently flourished in its glory and grandeur. Nowadays the university features 11 regular faculties plus 2 faculties for international students, 73 chairs and 6 research centers whose scientific work has long been an unfading example. The university's library holds about 1,3 million volumes and is the second largest in the Urals, while the warm and creative atmosphere of the university is a true temple of science for about 7000 students. The university is located right in front of the Opera House.
