Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

General Information
A very solid and beautiful warrior-cathedral whose domes can be compared with tall helmets that shine on the sun with all their glory. Cathedral was founded in honor of Emperor Alexander I and in the name of the emperor's guardian angel St. Alexander Nevsky, the Prince of Novgorod, great strategist and divine protector of Russian warriors. The first cathedral was founded in 1814 and it was intended to commemorate the victory over Napoleon, but in 1838 it was essentially enlarged, which made it the largest cathedral in the city and gave it its final look. It can house about 6000 people. The regime of the Bolsheviks had closed the church, established an Armory inside it and broken the inner space of cathedral into 3 floors for that purpose.
